Justice & Mercy International is pleased to introduce Vadim Fortuna as our new National Director of Justice & Mercy Moldova. Vadim will officially take over from Alina Magdaliuc on July 1. Alina has served as our Moldova National Director for 13 years and was instrumental in laying the groundwork for our work with vulnerable children there.
“We are grateful for Alina’s service and wish her all the best as she transitions into new opportunities. We look forward to what God will do in this next chapter of our ministry in Moldova,” said Mary Katharine Hunt, CEO of Justice & Mercy International. “Our vision for our work in Moldova is expanding and Vadim is coming in with a wealth of experience and a love for the Lord that we believe will lead our organization into an exciting future.”
With a rich background spanning over 15 years as a legal advisor and consultant in the nonprofit sector of Moldova, Vadim brings a unique perspective to the role of National Director. Vadim’s academic achievements include a master’s degree in Law, and he is in the final year of his studies at the Baptist Theological Institute of Bucharest. He also cultivates the legal literacy of the next generation by teaching Law at Divitiae Gratiae University. He is recognized for his exceptional talent for translating legalese into regular, understandable language.
“I am deeply committed to advancing JMI’s ministry in Moldova and, together with the Moldova team and the local church ministers, ministry leaders, and village missionaries, pursuing a fruitful, Christ-centered service,” he said.
Recently, Vadim was the Executive Director of the “Celebration of Hope” project by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Moldova. He managed and inspired teams ranging from a few individuals to hundreds of employees and volunteers leading up to the major, three-day event at Chisinau Arena, which attracted over 25,000 attendees. Vadim often preaches in his home church, and he and his wife, Ecaterina (Kate), spearhead the teen ministry there as well.
Vadim and Kate have been married since 2012 and have two children, Enrico (8) and Gloria (4). “Our family name is Fortune (Fortuna), but we believe in imperishable values and God-sent blessings rather than luck or wealth,” he said. “It’s a beautiful perspective, emphasizing the richness we find in Christ and the intangible values like salvation, love, grace, and mercy, and the blessings we find in our relationships and ministries.”
Years ago, Kate and Vadim were baptized on the same day, in the same body of water, without knowing they’d soon become a family. Vadim and Kate cherish their belief that since their wedding day, God has bestowed upon them profound blessings every four years, which they call “stones of remembrance.” Four years after their wedding, they welcomed their son. After another four years, their daughter followed. Now, four years later, they are starting a new chapter in their professional and ministerial lives at Justice & Mercy Moldova.
Kate also joins Justice & Mercy Moldova as the Director of Public Relations. A woman of many talents, she holds a degree in psychology and education. She has 15 years of experience in various ministry, legal, and communications roles, including acting as the executive editor for a youth magazine.
“We are excited to welcome the Fortunas into the JMI family and believe they are the right people to lead our Moldova team into the future,” Mary Katharine said. “God has always been faithful to guide our efforts, and we are expectant for this new season ahead as we continue to care for vulnerable children and families in our programs and connect with more local churches to spread the hope of the Gospel across Moldova and other parts of Eastern Europe.”
Please join us in warmly welcoming Vadim and Kate to the JMI community.
