Honoring Moldova’s Mothers and Grandmothers

Support Moldovan Mothers

In Moldova’s rural villages, mothers and grandmothers often bear the weight of their families on their shoulders. Many live in the shadows of hardship, poverty, loneliness, and the struggles that come from raising children in difficult circumstances. Yet, they press on with resilience, offering love, stability, and strength to their families.

At JMI, we believe these women deserve to be seen, celebrated, and supported. That’s why we created the Celebrations for Mothers program, a special initiative that brings joy, encouragement, and spiritual renewal to the caregivers of our sponsored children.

For a few precious hours, women step away from the burdens of daily life and into a space filled with warmth, laughter, and fellowship at these events. They are greeted with beautifully decorated spaces, engaging activities, singing, and an uplifting Bible message. Many of the women who attend are not believers and do not regularly go to church, which makes these gatherings a meaningful opportunity to share about God in a welcoming environment. More than anything, they are reminded that they are valued, loved, and not alone.

At the same time, these events are intentionally designed to give women a chance to rest. Life in the village is physically demanding, with few opportunities to pause and recharge. Through shared meals, simple treats, and interactive activities, each gathering creates space for joy, reflection, and renewal.

Each celebration is unique, but the heart remains the same to bless and encourage women who often put themselves last. In villages across Moldova, women gather in local churches for times of learning, worship, and community. For many, it is the first time they have experienced something created just for them. There is laughter, thoughtful discussion, and often tears of gratitude as women share openly about their lives.

Through music, discussions, and testimonies, the women explore what it means to be a daughter of God. Creative activities, such as candle-making, offer a simple yet meaningful way for them to express themselves and experience joy. In these moments, burdens are shared, stories are heard, and women who often feel unseen are met with compassion and support. Many leave with a renewed sense of hope.

At the close of each celebration, every woman receives a small, meaningful, and personalized gift. It includes a printed photo from the evening as a tangible reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved. The smiles captured in those photos tell a clear story: for a short time, these women step out of their daily struggles and into shared joy.

In addition to these celebrations, we also care for widows with young children by providing practical support. Each summer, they gather for a camp, where we bring large grocery packages to help meet tangible needs. These consistent acts of care help strengthen and encourage women who are carrying significant responsibility on their own.

The unseen mothers and grandmothers of Moldova give everything for their families, yet often receive so little in return. Through your support, we can continue to offer these celebrations to remind these incredible women that they are not forgotten, they are cherished, loved by God, and by a community that spans oceans.
