Our hearts are heavy as we watch what is happening in Ukraine. The ramifications of this attack are global, and for JMI and our friends and family, they are also personal. As you know, one of the countries where we work primarily is Moldova, which directly borders Ukraine. Moldova is vulnerable in a way that most of us are unable to relate to.
On Thursday, February 24th, 2022, Russia launched a full scale military invasion of Ukraine. Moldova has declared a State of Emergency.
This situation is moving fast and constantly changing. Our team is staying up to date on the situation and continuing to monitor how that attack impacts our work with the vulnerable in Moldova. This page will stay as up to date as possible with how this conflict is impacting our programming.
Below is a link to give to our Heart for Moldova Fund. These funds will be used for JMI to respond to this crisis in Ukraine as it continues to impact Moldova.
Here are the measures we are taking right now to ensure our vulnerable children and families are supported in Moldova:
- We have given Emergency Authorization for our Moldovan team to spend $10,000 for nonperishable food supplies, gas, and generators for our Transitional Living homes in case of power outages. We anticipate this dollar amount will quickly increase as Ukrainian refugees flood into Moldova.
- We’ve established a specific website page to share information about this situation with a link to give to our Heart for Moldova Fund. These funds will be used for JMI to deal with this crisis in Moldova. You can visit our website for more information.
- We are exploring ways JMI might help Ukrainian refugees who are starting to flood into Moldova.
We are looking for partners who are willing to help with the situation developing in Moldova. If you or someone you know would be a contact for this type of support, please email Mary Katharine Hunt at [email protected] or Chris Hardy at [email protected].
