Do you believe in destiny?
Do you believe, for instance, that certain people are pre-destined to be saved? What about that person you’re married to?…destiny or random choice? Or how about the disease or tragedy someone in your life is presently battling? Is there a purpose to it or do those things just happen because we are fallen people living in a fallen world?
Everyone is entitled to his own theory and there are plenty of experts on either side if you’re putting together your own “fantasy philosophers’ league.”
Personally, I’m intrigued with the idea of Peter Rollins in his controversial book, Insurrection, when he offers the question, “What if Resurrection life is marked by the acceptance of our role as creators of destiny rather than mere pawns to be moved around by it?” He goes on to suggest that destiny may not be a predetermined reality we walk blindly into. Rather it is something that comes to life when we choose to be a part of doing something redemptive.
For example, a few weeks ago we were informed that Maria Stoian, who lives in our Grace House in Moldova, gave her life to Christ. Perhaps that was her destiny, even before the foundation of the world. But you could also make the case that Christ-followers participated in creating that destiny. Her sponsors – Lea and Jason Crockarell – who gave her the opportunity to live in Grace House…all the Falesti volunteers who have incarnated the love and message of Jesus to her over the past decade…and/or our psychologist, Elena Vasilachi, who tends to the spiritual needs of our transitional living kids on a daily basis.
Regardless of your personal beliefs, on October 7th, I will ask you to believe that God created you – destined you – to be a creator of someone’s destiny.
That is the date when we are asking all of our family of supporters to make a special, one-time gift toward our Make Justice Personal campaign. Every dollar of those gifts will be directed toward:
- the purchase of a transitional living home in Moldova that will save orphans like Maria from lives of poverty and abuse at the hands of corrupt men
- the support of a Life Skills Educator who will feed, teach and model Christ to a group of impressionable, needy children in Red Hill, South Africa
- the construction of a school in a remote village along an Amazon tributary in Brazil that will dramatically reduce the peril of traveling for miles through the jungle and by river
On October 7th, your gifts will change lives. On October 7th, you can be the creator of someone’s destiny! Please join us in making a gift – a meaningful, even sacrificial gift – so that the most vulnerable of children can live within the blessing of their heavenly Father’s safekeeping!
