As news outlets report almost ⅔ of Ukrainian children being displaced since the war began, our Moldova team ministered to refugee families by hosting a Kids Day Camp. For the last two months, refugee children have been under incredible amounts of stress, their world-changing around them rapidly, in complex and scary ways. At the Costești Village Refugee Center, where there are over 137 refugees, we brought games, crafts, and goodies for the children there. They loved the sweets and little gifts and treats we were able to leave them at the end of the program.
We encouraged the children with the Bible verse Deuteronomy 31:6. “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Our programming in Moldova began with a focus on vulnerable children. As the world watches Ukraine, we cannot forget the effect that these events have and will continue to have on the children in Ukraine and Moldova. As we continue to support refugees, we are excited to have more and more opportunities to care for the children impacted by war.
In addition to our Kids Day Camp, we were able to provide an abundance of aid to refugee centers and churches. One pastor from Tarancuta sent us a list of needs and asked us to buy what we were able to. They came to pick up their supplies in a small car, not knowing that we were able to take care of everything on their list, and more. The pastor called us later and expressed his surprise and gratitude for our help in getting them the material resources they needed. When we provide food and hygiene kits to families, oftentimes the children will come running to the car, shocked at the food and supplies they are receiving. One family was astonished at the level of care they were given- the high quality of soaps and shampoos made them feel cared for and valued.
The refugee crisis in Ukraine and Moldova continues on, and as it does, JMI is dedicated to caring for the families fleeing their homes. You have allowed us to do this work and bring hope and support to these families. Our work is not over yet, and we are thankful to have you standing with us.
