RHCC Amazon Trip

March 12 - March 19

The Amazon mission trip holds a tremendous fascination for those who have an adventurous and compassionate heart. Expect to travel up and down the Amazon, Solimões and Negro Rivers on a double-decker boat called the Discovery that serves as both housing and transportation. You will see long stretches of uninhabited waterway connecting remote villages, towns and isolated homes along the banks. Every trip we make will have a specific service mission at its core. This may include training, vacation bible study programming with kids, medical care, home visits and construction projects.  Our teams always bring the love of Jesus and share the Good News.

Each day starts with breakfast & devotional time on our brand new hammock boat. You will then travel to the village where you are working and spend the morning doing ministry in different villages, return to the boat for lunch, and continue village ministry in the afternoon. Dinner and team time will be in the evening.  There will also be opportunities to debrief with the team about experiences and see some of the wildlife of the Amazon.

Travel, Accommodations and Health Info

This team will fly American Airlines from Nashville to Manaus. Flight routes are changing constantly right now so your exact route will be determined closer to travel. No visa is required, just a current passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

You will sleep on our double decker boat in hammocks with mosquito netting. The boat has separate restroom and shower facilities for men and women. Throughout your trip you meals are prepared by our 2 wonderful cooks on the boat.  JMI works hard to make sure all food is safe for foreigners to eat.

JMI is requiring a COVID vaccination for all individuals 18+ years old. There are no other immunizations for travel to Brazil, but several suggestions by the CDC. We recommend that you check with your primary care physician and decide together which immunizations make sense for you.  JMI is keeping a close eye on COVID restrictions.  Everyone must get covid tested before arriving in Brazil and when returning back to the states.  We are monitoring all Covid updates closely and will keep you updated.  Also, we know there are many strong opinions about masking or not masking.  JMI wants you to know that if you sign up for this trip you agree to wear a mask whenever a JMI staff person asks you to or the government requires it.  We want to be respectful and careful around those most vulnerable that we will be working with.  Thank you for your understanding!
