Do JMI Brazil Trips require a COVID vaccination or COVID testing?
The COVID vaccination requirement has recently lifted for travel to Brazil, but unvaccinated travelers must present a negative laboratory COVID-19 test result performed within one day of boarding. JMI is asking all vaccinated travelers to take a home test before traveling as a precaution. Currently, no COVID testing is required for US citizens returning to the US. Please be aware that COVID requirements can change at any moment.
Are any other vaccinations required for this trip?
At this time no other vaccinations are required for this trip. Some trip participants choose to take medication as malaria prevention and to get other recommended immunizations. We encourage you to check the CDC recommendations and talk to your doctor about what is best for you.
Do I need to purchase travel insurance?
JMI has you covered with a robust travel insurance plan that covers things like health emergencies/evacuations. However, it DOES NOT cover if you have to stay in Brazil longer for trip interruption.
If you would like to purchase additional travel insurance that DOES cover things like travel interruption, we recommend IMG. This is optional and you can contact IMG directly with any questions or concerns.
***Please note that JMI is not responsible for the cost of airline tickets if your ticket must be canceled for ANY reason (before or during your trip). Due to airline prices, you may have a disconnected ticket, meaning there could be unforeseen booking fees. Trip participants have lost money in the past. Please be aware! This is why we recommend purchasing trip insurance.***
Do I need a visa to travel to Brazil?
On April 10, 2025, the Government of Brazil will reinstate a visa requirement for all U.S. nationals visiting Brazil. JMI will give you information on how to apply as you prepare for your trip.
What does the trip cost include?
The trip cost covers flights and all in-country expenses–everything except airport meals, travel interruptions not covered by the airline, and souvenirs.

The only air conditioning is the breeze off the river and fans. Sweating is a wonderful natural detox. 🙂 Believe it or not, it does cool off a bit at night. Our boat does have a few air conditioned rooms in case someone gets sick.
