It is with great joy that the Walter Kreidel Memorial Fund is being formed at JMI to carry on the work of a man whose heart never strayed too far from Brazil. When Walter heard of his son’s recent trip to work in the Amazon region (and specifically helping the pastors and peoples along the river’s edge), he exclaimed that he was “ready to go.” For a brief moment it was as if he had forgotten his body’s limitations. With fresh stories from abroad as well as a clear vision as portrayed in the ministry’s book, WHEREVER THE RIVER RUNS, he was “all in.” Though not feasible due to health reasons, his desire was immediate: “Chris, how can we help invest in the lives there and aid in the pastors’ work?”
For Walter, JMI was the next great adventure. With a twinkle in his eye he was already imagining pouring himself into remote villages in the Amazon… places he could see that were in great need of the gospel. It was a natural transition as Walter and Mary Nelle Kreidel served as missionaries in Brazil for over thirty years. There, they planted churches, teaching and investing in the lives of men and women who are still carrying on the work of evangelizing to this day!
Walter leaves a legacy that is personal yet far reaching. He had an infectious love for others and passion for making disciples. His ever-present smile and joyful laugh will be missed. Though Walter passed from this earthly home, he has gained his reward in heaven and because of your gift, his mission will live on throughout Brazil.
