In South Africa, JMI partners with Living Hope to employ two life skills educators in the impoverished village of Red Hill, just outside of Cape Town. Hennie is an 18-year-old boy who grew up in Red Hill. He spent most of his childhood and adolescent years attending the life-skills courses and kids/teen clubs held just a short walk away from the shack he calls home.
From all outward appearances, Hennie did not have much of a chance to succeed in life. But God has used the long, consistent presence of the godly life-skills educators to make all the difference. Over the past several years, Hennie has been honing his barber skills by offering free haircuts to people in his community. Recently, one of our life skills educators encouraged him to turn this skill into a job. With the help of JMI & Living Hope staff, Hennie was able to purchase a structure of his own where Red Hill’s very first barber shop is housed! This has not only provided a much-needed source of income, but the entire process has given Hennie a new-found confidence and vision for his future.
