Hurricane Katrina in 2005, was the costliest and one of the most deadly in U.S. history, devastating the country’s south-central coastline and New Orleans in particular. In the aftermath of the destruction of buildings and infrastructure, a dispersed people are making their way back to the city to pick up the pieces of their lives.
In the spring of 2010, JMI adopted New Orleans as a mission site and implement some creative programming to be a part of the rebirth of that city. We will be teaming up with one of the city’s more socially minded churches to lend a hand to neighbors who are rebuilding and provide a spark of hope and encouragement to the people who have been dispossessed.

In fall of 2010, we will also be going to minister to the communities in Appalachia. JMI will travel to Leslie County, Kentucky for a mission trip. Leslie County, Kentucky is the 15th poorest county in the United States based on median household income. According to the US Census Bureau the median income of a household in Leslie County is $18,500, compared to a median household income of $70,000 in Williamson County TN. Yet, Leslie County KY is not lacking in rich culture, strong family units and beautiful scenery. While in Kentucky, JMI will partner with Big Creek Missions to host day camps for children, distribute food and clothes to families in need, participate in construction projects and work in local elementary schools. This trip will also provide you an opportunity to better understand Appalachian culture as you minister to, love on and get to know people, while addressing issues of spiritual lostness, education and poverty.
