South Africa

South AfricaA country of over 48,000,000 people, each of whom, on average, has a life-expectancy of around 50 years old, South Africa has the highest incidence of HIV and TB in all of Africa. JMI has put its arms around the village of Red Hill, an impoverished squatters’ village overlooking an affluent, largely oblivious township. It might as well be in another world!

Approximately 50% of Red Hill’s residents are infected with HIV. JMI partners with an indigenous nonprofit organization – Living Hope – to provide needed after-school programs, funding to address crisis situations, residential construction assistance, HIV education, community caregiver retreats and remedial support services. On-going sponsorships direct funding to the most urgent needs.

JMI conducts annual trips to South Africa in the month of February for those interested in volunteering.
