Moldova
Moldova is the poorest and most victimized of the countries of the former Soviet Union. It is ground zero for human trafficking in all of Eastern Europe. And it is also home to thousands of the most responsive, endearing children in the world. Volunteers of JMI have been active in assisting orphan causes there since 2002.
JMI targets its services toward orphaned and abandoned children in Moldova. We follow a strategic plan that includes:
- Creating enduring relationships with children in orphanages through summer camp mission trips (late June/early July) and winter retreat (late December/early January) programs, using those opportunities to infuse life skills, transferrable talents, reflective reasoning abilities and a sense of belonging in a larger family context
- Strengthening those connections through a sponsorship/mentoring program that allows Americans to personally and financially invest long-term in a specific child’s life outcome via a uniquely interactive email program
- Providing transitional living homes and opportunities for children with no families as a support system to keep them safe, complete their education and provide them with vocational skills and habits
